Dear Families,
Welcome to the Avenues Shenzhen Secondary Division! This document is intended to give you an understanding of the key policies and procedures of the Secondary Division. It is intended to be a complement to the Family Handbook, which covers our campus-wide norms.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let your student’s Dean or Associate Division Head know. Thank you for your partnership in raising the next generation; it truly does take a village.
Warm regards,

Regular Arrival
Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and students may arrive at school at the main entrance on Lishui Road as early as 7:45 a.m. On rainy days, the building lobby will be open at 7:30 a.m. Students who take the school bus will be dropped off in front of the Lishui Road Gate.
Late Arrival
Students who arrive late will be marked “late” in our records. If the tardiness is caused by an unexpected event on the way to school, please notify the school via the “Absence Request” on WeChat parent portal. For planned or predictable late arrival, it will be marked as a leave request. Notify the school via the “Absence Request” on the WeChat Parent Portal at least one day in advance for the leave request as possible.
Regular Dismissal
Students will be dismissed at 4:00 p.m. (3:00 p.m. on Wednesdays). In general, middle and upper grades students will be dismissed without a caregiver or parent needing to pick them up. Secondary parents who would prefer that the school hold their child until an authorized person arrives must email the operations manager to apply for supervised pickup service.
If the last class ends at CCMI, parents can submit a CCMI Student Self-Dismissal Safety Responsibility Agreement (Optional) at the beginning of the semester to authorize the student to leave school on their own from CCMI.
The after-school sports programs for middle grades and upper grades students are held at the CCMI sports facilities, while other non-sports clubs and activities take place on campus. Students who participate in the after-school sports at CCMI must take the afterschool CCMI shuttle bus from campus at 4:15 p.m. (3: 15 p.m. on Wednesdays) on Lishui Road. Those who miss the shuttle bus must go home or proceed to StudyLab.
Students who participate in the after-school sports program at CCMI may take the shuttle bus back to campus, self-dismiss, or be picked up.
Private cars are not allowed to enter the school campus or the CCMI complex. Students who dismiss from CCMI need to be picked up on Qinyuan Second Road directly outside of the CCMI South Gate 2. To reduce traffic, we ask private cars to leave as soon as students have been picked up.
In addition to after-school clubs, StudyLab is open to all middle grades students who would like to stay in A19 between 4:00–5:30 p.m. (3:00–5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays). G6-G8 students should go to their designated classrooms in A19. G9-G12 students may choose to study in the common areas on the 5th or 6th floor. After 5:30 PM, all students must leave the academic building unless accompanied by a teacher. Secondary parents do not need to sign up for StudyLab, and students may come and go as necessary.
All school buses depart from campus at dismissal time. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, the first bus departs at 4:10 PM (3:10 PM on Wednesdays). The school will determine whether to provide a second bus service each semester based on the number of after-school program registrations. If provided, the second bus departs at 6:00 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (5:00 PM on Wednesdays).
Students who miss their assigned bus must arrange their own transportation.
Attendance
Regular attendance is an important part of the educational experience of each student. We expect students to attend all assigned classes and meetings and to be on time.
Student attendance will be reflected in their report cards and transcripts. If a student's attendance rate falls below 90% by the end of the academic year, they may be required to repeat the grade level.
Responsibility of the Family
Families must submit a request via WeChat for all attendance-related matters, including absences, lateness, and early dismissals. For same-day requests, parents must submit late requests before school starts and early dismissal requests by 1:30 p.m. All requests must include a clear explanation.
Parents are requested to arrange medical appointments during holiday times or outside of school hours. When it is not possible to arrange appointments outside of school hours, students are expected to return to school afterward.
Responsibility of the Student
Students are expected report to school and all classes on time. If a student is absent, they should communicate with their teachers and stay up to date with assignments on Canvas.
When necessary, the school may require students to remain after school for reflection and completion of missing assignments. Advance notice will be provided to both students and parents to accommodate schedule adjustments.
If students are unable to participate in WAM classes at CCMI, they should still take their designated bus to CCMI with their class. Students unable to participate in WAM will sit with the CCMI nurses. If the student’s health condition doesn't allow them to take the school bus to CCMI, they must stay with the A8 nurses. If a student misses the school bus to CCMI, they will check in with the security team at the A8 Lishui Road Gate and wait until their class returns or a teacher/administrator tells them otherwise.
Cumulative Excused Absences
A record of more than five Excused Absences will trigger a review by the student’s Dean, who is responsible for following up with the parents, documenting an explanation, and notifying the Associate Division Head.
If a student requests sick leave for three or more consecutive days, they must provide medical records and other diagnostic documentation. Otherwise, the absence will be recorded as unexcused.
If a student needs to request personal leave for three or more days, parents must submit an application via email to both the student's dean and the Associate Division Head.
A record of more than ten absences per school year in a single course will trigger a review by the Associate Division Head and the student’s Dean. Students who miss more than ten classes in a single course may not be eligible to earn credit or will be placed on Academic Hold.
Cumulative Unexcused Absences
A record of more than three Unexcused Absences on Engage will trigger a review by the student’s Dean, who is responsible for following up with the parents, documenting an explanation, and notifying the Associate Division Head.
Changing Dismissal Plans
If you have signed up for the school bus but do not need to take the bus on a certain day, please notify the school via “Dismissal Change” on WeChat parent portal before 1:30 p.m. on that day. Please ensure that your child understands where they should go each day after school. If you have any other questions about dismissal, please contact operations manager by email in time.
ID Badges
Secondary Division students and parents will each receive an ID Badge.
The parent ID Badge is used for access to campus and division events. Parents are required to wear their ID Badges when attending school activities.
The student ID Badge is used for campus access and printer usage. Middle-grade and upper-grade students will have different colored lanyards to indicate which students are permitted to leave campus during lunch. Under no circumstances may upper-grade students give their lanyards or ID badges to middle-grade students.
If an ID Badges is lost, please email the student’s dean and copy the security team at security-sz@avenueschina.cn to request a replacement. If the lost card is found, it must be returned to the security at A12 reception, and only the most recently issued card may be used. ID Badges may not be lent to others under any circumstances.
Lunch and Snacks
Avenues’ dining program covers a wide variety of dietary needs by being nut-aware, offering dairy-free alternatives, and providing vegetarian options. No outside food is allowed on campus. Morning snacks, lunch and afternoon fruits will be provided by school on a daily basis. For any special dietary needs, parents must contact the Operations Manager via email and complete the 《Consent Form for Food Arrangements at School》.
Middle grades students are not permitted to bring or order drinks or outside food on campus. Upper grades students may bring drinks (consumable only on the 5th and 6th floors) but are not allowed to bring or order outside food.
Upper grade program students may leave campus for lunch but are not permitted to order food delivery to school. Students who leave campus for lunch must return on time for their afternoon classes. Failure to comply with these rules may result in the revocation of off-campus lunch privileges. Parents may contact the Operations Manager via email to adjust their child’s lunch arrangements if needed.
Elevator Use
Students are asked to take the stairs when they are at school. Elevator access is reserved for students who have a documented injury or are accompanied by a teacher.
Upper Grades students have the privilege to use the elevator before 8:00 a.m. or when accompanied by a teacher.
Locker Use Guidance
Students must use their personal lockers properly, keep items organized, and are not allowed to store food inside. During school hours, students must store their backpacks and mobile phones in their lockers, take responsibility for their personal belongings, and ensure that their lockers remain locked at all times.
Shared Spaces Expectation
Students are expected to follow the routines to keep the learning environment tidy, quiete and safe. Students must regulate their voice levels and avoid behaviors that are disruptive to classes, activities, or shared spaces. Students should make an effort to greet members of the community and visitors to acknowledge and welcome others.
MG Students are permitted in the following spaces at the following times:
Before 8:00 a.m. and during breaks: Common Areas on Floors 1, 2, 3, 4
Lunch Recess: A8 courtyard, Floors 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7th floor rooftop
After 4:00 p.m.: Study Lab
UG Students are permitted in the following spaces at the following times:

Lunch Recess (on campus): in the A8 courtyard, Floors 1, 6, and the 7th floor rooftop
After 4:00 p.m.: Common Areas on Floors 5 and 6
All students should spend their breaks in common areas. For safety reasons, no student may stay alone in unsupervised spaces like empty classrooms. While middle grades students need teacher approval for any device use, upper grades students are expected to use computers responsibly for learning-related purposes.
Assessment and Reporting
Avenues Secondary Division assessment and reporting approach is designed to reflect accurately students’ performance, progress and growth and to provide parents with frequent, convenient information on how their child is progressing.
Clubs
To optimize the development and college readiness of every student, we expect students to get involved in a range of extra-curricular activities offered midday and after school. We offer a range of activities and clubs in academic, artistic, and athletic areas of interest.
Our extra-curricular programming is split between a middle block club and after-school club in an effort to broaden the involvement and variety we offer individual students.
Students may also choose to participate in StudyLab, a supervised space where students can focus on their coursework.
We encourage students to speak with their Deans about how to create a balanced schedule based on our offerings.
